Q & A
 Q.Is it possible to have Lilypie Baby Days calculator on my desktop and have the numbers change?
 AWindows XP and earlier versions of Windows allow you install an HTML file as part of your Active Desktop and it will automatically update the image when you have your computer online.

Active Desktop is not available on Vista. More about the Vista Desktop.

See below for How to create an Baby Due-date HTML desktop file,
and then How to place a Baby Due-date page on the desktop in Windows XP.

If you running an earlier version of windows this will still give you an idea how to do install your desktop file, but if you run into problems try a Google search with the phrase
"active desktop windows"
and then whatever version you are running (2000, 95, 98) and you will find more help than I can give you.

How to create an Baby Due-date HTML desktop file;
Open Notepad and paste in the following HTML;

And then paste the Lilypie Baby Days HTML from one of the Create Baby Days or
Baby & Kids Birthday pages between and so it looks like this;
Then save that file as "baby_desktop.html" and you have a Lilypie Baby Days desktop file.

NB Make sure you put in the quotes around "baby_desktop.html" OR select All files from the Save as type drop-down underneath where you type in the file name. Otherwise notepad will save it as a text file.

Notepad comes standard with all installations of Windows, you will find it in your Start menu under Accessories or just click on Run in your Start menu and type in notepad. Then click on OK and it will start up. << Back to creating a Desktop file.

 Q.How do I make the background transparent for the Lilypie Baby Days calculator on my desktop using Internet Explorer 6?
 AThe easiest way to add a ticker to your desktop if you are using Internet Explorer 6 is to use the context menu to set it as a desktop item.
NB This will only display the ticker itself, not the optional left side photo. For Internet Explorer 7 you can follow the instructions here.

To set the ticker as a desktop item:

  • On the ticker page choose the image options you want including Set Background: Clear Background if you want the ticker to be transparent.
  • Click on Create Ticker
  • Right click on the Preview Image and choose Set as Desktop item from the context menu.

    set as desktop

  • Click on Yes in response to the Do you want to add an Active Desktop item to your desktop? alert box.
  • A synchronization dialogue will display while Active desktop gets a copy of the image and then the ticker will appear on your desktop.

To make your ticker update automaticaly:
  • Right click on your desktop and click on Properties to quickly bring up the Display Dialogue or go to your control panel and choose Display.
  • Click on the Desktop tab, and then the Customize desktop button.
  • Click on the Web tab, and then the Properties button.
  • Make sure that Make this page available offline is selected in the Web Document dialogue
  • Click on the Schedule tab
  • Select Using the following schedule<s>
  • Click on Add
  • Select a time when you are likely to be online and give your schedule a name.

  • schedule desktop
  • Click OK on all the dialogue boxes and you are done.
 Q.Can I add the Lilypie Baby Days to my Windows desktop without having to create an HTML file?
 AThe easiest way I found, to have a desktop item is to enter in the image url. To do this:
  1. Go to Control Panel and click on Display.
  2. Click on the Desktop tab and then click on the Customise Desktop button.
  3. Click on the Web tab and then click on the New button.
  4. Where it says Location: paste in the image URL for your ticker. This will look something like this:

    http://bd.lilypie.com/fx0bp11.png

  5. click on OK, & then OK again.
NB This will only add the ticker itself, if you want to put the photo next to it, repeat the instructions using the photo URL and then move the two desktop items together.

This works for transparent or white background tickers, depending on what you chose in the Set background option at Step 3.

 Q.I have placed Lilypie Baby Days on my desktop but it isn't counting down. What do I need to do?
 AIn your Lilypie Baby Days html there is a line which tells Active Desktop to update the webpage every hour:
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3600">
This will only work if your computer is online when it goes to update (Active Desktop really just acts like a browser).
If you normaly use your computer offline, you might need to go online and then right click below the Lilypie Baby Days calculator the image (if you click on the image you will get the wrong context menu) and select Refresh to update the image.
 Q.How do I remove Lilypie Baby Days from my desktop?
 AThis will tell you how to remove your Lilypie Baby Days from Active Desktop in Windows XP. If you running a different version of windows this will still give you an idea how to do remove your Desktop item, but if you run into problems try a Google search with the phrase
"remove active desktop item"
and then whatever Windows version you are running (2000, 95, 98) and you will find more help than I can give you.
  • Right click on your desktop to quickly bring up the Display Dialogue or go to your control panel and choose Display.
  • Choose the Desktop tab.
  • Choose the Web tab.
  • Your Lilypie Baby Days page should appear on the list of items. Select your Lilypie Baby Days page and click on Delete and then OK.
  • If you just want to temporarily stop your Lilypie Baby Days page from displaying, but don't want to delete it. Uncheck the tickbox to the left of your Lilypie Baby Days item.
 Q.Can I have 2 or more tickers on my desktop?
 AYou can have as many as you like. Follow the instructions for adding the Lilypie desktop file and then use a linebreak tag <br /> between each code snippet. Your desktop HTML will look something like this:
 Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days to my Mac desktop?
 AIf you are using the Tiger OS you can use a widget to display the ticker on your desktop.

There is more about widgets here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/dashboard/

& how to create your own here: http://developer.apple.com/macosx/dashboard.html

 Q.I can't get my Lilypie Baby Days to resize or move around on my Windows desktop? How do I fix it?
 AYou may have Lock Desktop items selected. To check for this:
  1. Go to your Control Panel and click on Display.
  2. Click on the Desktop tab and then click on the Customise Desktop button.
  3. Click on the Web tab.
  4. Make sure the Lock Desktop items check box (at the bottom of this pic) is unselected.

 Q.How do I add a Lilypie ticker to my Vista desktop?
 AVista does not have Active Desktop instead you can add gadgets to your Vista sidebar. Unfortunately, the sidebar is only 130 pixels wide, much too narrow to fully display the Lilypie tickers. There is more about Vista gadgets on the Microsoft site.
