Q & A
Q.How do I add a Lilypie ticker to my website?
 AOn Lilypie:
  • Click on the background image to select the background you want for your ticker.
  • Click on Step 2 to take you to the next page.
  • Click on the marker image you would like to use.
  • Click on Step 3.
  • Select your date from the date drop down and enter any text you would like to display on your ticker.
  • Click on Create Ticker
  • Right click in the HTML text box and choose Select All from the context menu.
  • Right click again and choose Copy. You now have the HTML code snippet in your clipboard.
On your website, if you are using a website or page builder, look for a View / Edit HTML button, or maybe Edit Text. If you don't see anything like that, check the help on your website for how to Edit HTML. Once you have worked out how to edit the HTML for your page, paste in the Lilypie HTML code snippet.

Some free websites only allow you to add plain or specially formatted text, so you may not be able to add the HTML code and have it display as a graphic, again check with the support on your website.
Q.How do I add a Pregnancy ticker to my forum signature , and what is a signature anyway?
AOn many forums, once you have logged in you can go to your Preferences and in the Signature field you can enter some text which will be added to the bottom of every post you make.

Often it will say whether HTML is enabled, or Ezcode or whatever. Copy and paste your code snippet from one of the Create Baby Days or
Baby & Kids Birthday pages into the Signature field and save.

Of course, there are many different forums and they all do things differently. For instance, not all forums allow you to add a signature. If you can't work out how to add a signature at all, ask the forum moderator (or Administrator) on the forum you are using.
Q.When I posted the Pregnancy ticker to my forum there was
extra bits of text displayed. How do I fix it?
 AThis might be because;
  • You didn't select all the code before you pasted it in. To make sure you select all the code;
Right click in the text box and choose Select All from the context menu, and then right click again and select Copy. You now have the code snippet in your clipboard ready to paste.

  • The code you pasted in was for a different kind of forum. Try experimenting with the different code snippets. Unfortunately, you may find that none of them work with the forum you normaly use. Ask the forum moderator (or Administrator) on the forum if you can add an image link and what is the syntax to add an image link to a forum post.

Q.The forum or website I want to use the Lilypie ticker on has a dark background and the text under the ticker doesn't show up very well.
How do I fix it?
AThe final option on the ticker pages allows you to
Select the background to either transparent; which will show up the colour behind the ticker, or white. Choose white if your ticker will be on a mid to dark colour background. The text will be clear and the Lilypie ticker will look much better.

Alternatively, if you don't want a white background and are using the ticker on a website or on a forum where HTML is enabled, you can add a style to the image tag. Eg.,

<a href="http://Lilypie.com"><img src="http://Lilypie.com/days/040801/0/0/0/ 10" alt="Lilypie Baby Days" border="0" style="background:#CBEAFC" /></a>

Will put a pale blue behind a transparent Lilypie Baby Days.

For a list of more colour codes, check out Web Monkey's Colour Reference chart. Try to choose a fairly pale colour to show the Pregnancy ticker to best effect.
Q.Why isn't my Lilypie Baby Days ticker counting down, it has been showing the same text for the last few days.
AThis generaly just means your browser is cacheing the ticker rather than getting a new copy. To force a full refresh of the page, just hold down the Shift key and click on your browser refresh button.
Alternatively, if you copy-and-pasted the image rather than using one of the code snippets, it won't update, it's the code's job to retrieve the updated image.
Q.The months, weeks and days displayed on my Lilypie Baby Days are incorrect? How do I fix it?
AIt's correct, it's just that the result of calculating months, weeks and days can seem counter-intuitive because there isn't an even number of weeks in a month. The way it works on Lilypie is to count the number of months, and then divide the number of days remaining into weeks and days.

For instance, using a 2nd birthday ticker for a child born on the 9th of May, 2004, and looking at the ticker on the 25th June, 2005. On the 9th of June, the child was 1 year, 1 month old. There are 16 days between the 9th of June and the 25th of June so the Lilypie Baby Days will display 1 year, 1 month, 2 weeks and 2 days.

Q.How do I add a Lilypie Baby Days ticker to my blogger / blogspot blog?
AThe simplest way is to add the Lilypie Baby Days ticker as an HTML Page Element. You can also add it by editing the style sheet for your template.

To add the ticker as an HTML Page Element:

  1. Click on the Customize link at the top right of your blog.
  2. Click on the Template tab.
  3. Click on the Page Elements link
  4. Click on Add a Page Element where you want to add your ticker.
  5. Click on the HTML/Javascript 'Add to Blog' button
  6. Paste in your Lilypie HTML code snippet
  7. Click on Save Changes
NB The Blogger Picture Page Element does not work reliably with Lilypie images. The ticker URL may be reformatted so that the ticker doesn't display, or you get someone else's ticker. The photo image URL refuses to validate. In this case, just use the HTML/Javascript Page Element as described above.
Q.When I posted my ticker to my blog, another ticker was displayed?
AThis might happen if the ticker ID in your image URL has been mistyped or reformatted when you added it to your website. For more details, see below.
 Q.When I posted the Pregnancy ticker to my blog it said;
Sorry! No ticker has been found matching this ID.
How do I fix it?
AThis might happen if the ticker ID in your image URL has been mistyped or reformatted when you added it to your website. What sometimes happens is the uppercase letters are changed to lowercase letters on the web page.

To check for this look at the source for the page where you are displaying the ticker; you can use the shortcut Ctrl-U or go to View / Source in your browser menu. You can then search for lilypie to find where the image URL is on the page. You can then check this against your original code snippet to see if it is the same.

A number of people who use blogger / blogspot have found this happened when they added the ticker using just the image URL, but it worked correctly if they added the ticker using the HTML code snippet. There are detailed instructions here.

Q.How do i put it on my myspace?
AThere are probably many places you could put it on your myspace page. Look for places where it says to enter you own HTML and use the HTML code snippet from Lilypie. One option is to have it in your blog header.

In Myspace,

  1. Click on Manage Blog. There is a link at the left below your profile image.
  2. Click on Customize My Blog. There is a link at the left under My Controls
  3. Under Page Header select Your Own Header HTML and paste in your HTML code snippet from Lilypie.
  4. Click on Update. It is all the way at the bottom of the form.
Q.How do I add a LilypieLilypie Baby Days to my Facebook, iGoogle or Google homepage?
 AOn Lilypie:
  1. Click on the kind of ticker you want. Eg. Expecting a Baby for pregnancy ticker, first birthday etc.
  2. Choose the mini ticker size.
  3. Click on the background image to select the background you want for your ticker.
  4. Click on Step 2 to take you to the next page.
  5. Click on the marker image you would like to use.
  6. Click on Step 3.
  7. Select your date from the date drop down and enter any text you would like to display on your ticker.
  8. Click on Create Ticker.
  9. At the bottom of the form, there is a button link to add your new mini-ticker to Facebook and a button link it to iGoogle.
On Facebook:
  1. The first time you add a ticker to your Facebook profile, you need to add the Lilypie application. To do this click on the big blue Log in to Lilypie button.
  2. This takes you to the Add Lilypie to your Facebook account? page. Uncheck anything you don't want the application to do, then click on the big blue Add Lilypie button.
  3. This will show you your ticker. You can then click on the Profile link in your menu bar to see your ticker on your profile page.
Please note, the Facebook and iGoogle links are only available for mini-tickers, the full size tickers are too wide for the current layout of Facebook and iGoogle. The mini-ticker option is only available for new tickers, you can't convert any existing full-width ticker to a mini-ticker.
Q.I can no longer see where to set the time-zone for my Lilypie Baby Days. How do I change it?
AThe timezone is now automaticaly detected unless you don't have Javascript enabled. So there is no need to change it.

If you don't have Javascript enabled you will still see the timezone drop down as before.
